The City of Edmonton is located within rich farmland in the aspen parklands of central Alberta. It is North America’s largest northern city, built as a fur-trading fort in the 19th century and has a reputation for its sunny days, enjoyable summers and winters with snow and varying temperatures.

Edmonton experiences four distinct seasons. Snow cover characterizes winter from November through mid-March. Summers are generally dry and sunny. With about 2,300 hours of bright sunshine per year, Edmonton is one of Canada’s sunniest cities.

Yet statistics prove that, aside from an expected cold snap or two, the winters are tolerable provided that proper clothing (a warm parka) and footwear (insulated snow boots) are worn.

Statistically, Edmonton weather is more temperate than that of other prairie cities like Regina or Winnipeg, and less humid than Vancouver or Toronto. Our summers are hot, and because of our northerly latitude, our longest days stretch late into the night. Beautiful!
