Edmonton is well known for shopping – West Edmonton Mall is the world's largest entertainment and shopping centre in the world! But shopping in Edmonton is as diverse as our community.

There are shopping destinations for every budget. You can find boutiques for one-of-a-kind items on Whyte Avenue, or expensive luxury shopping downtown.

Chain stores can be found in any of Edmonton’s shopping malls, discounted goods at  warehouse outlet stores, or you can shop at thrift stores like Value Village, Goodwill stores or the Salvation Army for inexpensive second-hand items.

Shopping for Food
Some basic ethnic groceries are available at the local supermarket (IGA, Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore) but ingredients for Asian, Italian, Latin American, Halal, Greek, Indian, and other cuisines can also be found in specialized stores.

Prices of goods sold by weight or volume (for example – meat, vegetables and gasoline) may be show in metric units, or both metric and imperial units.

                  Metric           Imerial
Length     1 metre         = 1.1 yards
Weight     1 kilogram    = 202 pounds
Volume   litre                 = 0.88 quarts or 0.22 gallons

Most stores and shops have fixed prices and do not allow bargaining.
