There are a number of places in Edmonton where you can learn English, or upgrade your current English language skills. The government of Canada funds the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program for all adult permanent residents.

Newcomers who wish to attend LINC classes must have their language  levels assessed at the Language Assessment, Referral and Couselling Centre (LARCC) at Catholic Social Services.

After the assessment, the LARCC Language and Education Counsellors will help newcomers with their language and/or educational needs. Catholic Social Services publishes a comprehensive Edmonton Directory of ESL Programs and Services.

NorQuest College offers the largest full-time LINC program in the city, but there are  a variety of part-time ESL programs available throughout the city.

You can also enroll in ESL courses at universities and colleges or private schools. Check with each program as most of them require a fee.

For school-age children, ESL programs are also available through the Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic School systems.
