Certain occupations, such as professions (i.e. nurses, lawyers) or the trades (i.e. electricians, welders) in Alberta require certification or registration to demonstrate that you have the required knowledge and skills to perform the work.
This involves either registering with a professional regulatory organization or, in the trades, with Apprenticeship and Industry Training. What you need to be approved for work in your field varies according to each occupation. You will need your qualifications assessed if you have received your training outside of Alberta, and in some cases, an examination (for example, in English proficiency) is required.
